UT SPH’s Dr. Emery Awarded Medal of Achievement

 

Dr. Robert Emery, University of Texas School of Public Health (UT SPH) associate professor of occupational health and lieutenant commander in the U.S. Public Health Service, was awarded a medal of achievement by the Office of the Surgeon General at the U.S. Public Health Service Scientific and Training Symposium in Atlanta, GA on Wednesday, June 3. The medal was in recognition of Dr. Emery’s efforts to increase awareness among UT SPH students about career opportunities in the U.S. Public Health Service. Dr. Emery is pictured with RADM Carol Romano, Assistant Surgeon General, Director, Office of Reserve Affairs.

UT SPH Program HEADS UP Receives Accolade Award of Merit

 
Dr. Nancy G. Murray and Ms. Nathalie Sessions at The University of Texas School of Public Health (UT SPH) are preparing the next generation for career success in science and health. Both were awarded an Accolade Award of Merit for the video HEADS UP: The Immune System & Infectious Diseases. As part of the Michael & Susan Dell Center for Advancement of Healthy Living at UT SPH, the HEADS UP program educates middle school and high school students about science and health science careers through implementation of multimedia science curricula.

HONORARY CREW MEMBER

 Michelle Colvard, Miss Wheel Chair America 2009 will be joining Vision Racing as an honorary Crew member for the Bombardier LearJet 550k at Texas Motor Speedway this weekend. Born and raised in Houston, Texas, she graduated Summa cum Laude from the University of Houston and earned her Master's degree in Health Promotion from The University of Texas School of Public Health. Michelle was born with spina bifida and has used a wheelchair since the 6th grade - but those who know her don't see her wheelchair, or her disability.

Hurricane & Flood: Before and After Handbook

Nine months ago, a tropical puff of wind off the African coast swelled to the third most destructive hurricane to hit the United States. Hurricane Ike, a Category 2 with a Category 4 storm surge, erased parts of Galveston and Chambers Counties, claimed over 100 US lives, and ripped 2.6 million people off the electrical grid for weeks. As of February 2009, 34 people remained missing from the Texas coast.

I am writing to encourage upcoming or previous graduates to register for the National Board of Public Health Examiners (NBPHE) Certification in Public Health exam. As you may be aware, the exam was developed to provide a "Certified in Public Health" credential and will be offered for the second time in August 2009.

NBPHE CPHP exam Registration Fee has been Extended

The National Board of Public Health Examiners has asked that the following information be passed along to you.

Please note changes to the NBPHE CPHP exam registration deadline and fees.  Registration for the 2009 exam at the $400 fee has been extended to May 8, 2009.
