ALUM HELPS PUBLIC HEALTH EFFORTS IN HAITI

A. J. Parmet, MD, MPH, an alum from the San Antonio Regional Campus, recently went to Haiti with the Public Health Service. He forwarded us a few pictures of his time there. Here are the descriptions of the photos in his words.

Haitian “tent city” of 3000 people on a soccer field just outside our front gate. Barbed wire and perimeter services courtesy of the 82nd Airborne.

Feeding tuberculosis patients in the “isolation ward”.

The field laboratory. Limited to quick tests on urine, syphilis and HIV. Our field electronic device failed at the high temperatures and had to be placed in a refrigerator after each use.

ICU assessing a massive pneumonia for pleural effusion from TB. One or two active TB patients daily.
