Please welcome Dr. Bijal Balasubramanian to the UTSPH Dallas Regional Campus. She received a PhD degree in Epidemiology from the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey – School of Public Health. She earned her MBBS degree from the University of Pune, N.D.M.V.P. Samaj’s Medical College in Nashik, India.
Dr. Balasubramanian’s research work lies in racial/ethnic and socioeconomic disparities in cancer outcomes, health services research and quality of care issues in primary care practices.
While she primarily conducts epidemiologic research studies, she also works on mixed-methods research that integrates quantitative and qualitative research methodologies. Dr. Balasubramanian is currently part of a study that examines racial disparities in doctor-patient communication around decision making for surgical and radiation treatments for breast cancer. She is also very interested in practice-level factors that impact the quality of health care provided to primary care patients.
Prior to coming to UTSPH, Dr. Balasubramanian held the position of Assistant Professor in the Department of Family Medicine at the UMDNJ-Robert Wood Johnson Medical School and was the Associate Director of the NRSA Fellowship Program.
